Course Overview

This 2-day Kanban System Design (KMP I) foundations-level Kanban training class, certified by Lean Kanban University, introduces fundamentals of the Kanban Method and Kanban System Design topics through interactive teaching and discussion along with group exercises and games. You will also experience a Kanban simulation to design an actual Kanban system!

The Kanban System Design (KMP I) class is the first of two class requirements toward earning the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) designation.  The Kanban Management Professional (KMP II) class is the second requirement.

Course Objectives

As a Kanban System Design (KMP I) participant, you will learn how to design a Kanban system and initiate change with Kanban. This class also covers the basic concepts of flow, pull and collaborative improvement.

By the end of training, you will have learned how to:

  • Identify and address bottlenecks
  • Work with shifting priorities
  • Deal with interrupt work and multi-tasking
  • Deal with important but not time-critical work
  • Avoid having work pile up in one place (or time) while there is a lack of work in another place
  • Create flow in the work, the information to perform the work, and the teams that do the work

Course Topics

The Kanban System Design (KMP I) class curriculum is based on the work of David J. Anderson, author of the definitive book, Kanban: Successful Evolutionary Change for your Technology Business and includes the following topics:

  • Controlling Work in Progress (moving from push to pull)
